    Notes
    • Philip Hegerich and Gertrude Hegerich Riley both stated, in independent letters, that their mother had 11 children. But the 1900 US Federal Population Census shows that Sarah Hegerich has had 5 children, all of whom were living, and the 1910 Census states that she has had 10 children, eight of whom are living. Further, the two children who died bteween 1900 - 1910 are known, and there is no known MA birth record for a child born after 1910. The most likely explanation is that there was a still-born child who never appeared in the census count or the MA Birth Register.
