- In the record of her marriage to William Edward WENTZELL, Minnie CROUSE identifies her parents as Frederick and Elizabeth, which [together with the 1881 Census], identifies her as the daughter of Frederick Wentzell CROUSE [who d. 1870] and second wife Elizabeth, whose maiden name cannot be ascertained. Then, in 1882, John Peter JOUDREY m. Elizabeth CROUSE, widow, who is known to be d/o Lawrence and Catherine Elizabeth CONRAD. So the question is--are these Elizabeth's the same person?
The "Smoking Gun" that proves they are is the 1891 and 1901 Censuses of Conquerall Bank. in each of these, included in the houshold of William Edward and Minnie (CROUSE) WENTZELL is one Elizabeth JOUDREY, who is almost surely her mother. And if further proof were needed, next to the grave of her granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth WENTZELL 1901-1913, at Maple Leaf Cemetery, is a marker that reads "Elizabeth Crouse Joudrey".
Elizabeth's DOB in various records ranges from 1822 to 1830. The DOB shown in the 1901 Census is used here.
