Notes |
- The OLMC Parish Register records the marriage of William SLAUNWHITE, s/o Franics and Sophia, to Mary, d/o William and Julia Innes, on 29 Nov 1874 at Upper Prospect, and the civil register records the same marriage. But the civil register also records the marriage of William SLAUNWHITE, s/o Francis and Sophia, to Jessie, d/o William and Ann (this was Julia's middle name), on 2 Nov 1874 in an Anglican Ceremony at Halifax.
This would lead to all sorts of hypotheses, were it not for the fact that Mary, d/o William and Julia Ann Innes is still living at home with her parents in 1881, while Jessie is shown as the wife of William in 1881. What seems to have happened, since William is Catholic and Jessie is Anglican, is that there were two ceremonies--one Anglican and one Catholic three weeks later, and that the Catholic record has the wrong sister, which the civil register copies.
