- It is known that Elizabeth Martha MOSER m. John HARVEY, s/o George and Catherine Barbara (HARTLING) HARVEY in 1863. The question is--who is she?
Some have identifed her as Elizabeth HARVEY, d/o Johanna MOSER [of henry MOSER and Marry HENNEBERRY] and an unknown HARVEY. However, I think this is only partially true.
In the 1871 Census of Salmon River, John and Elizabeth Martha can be identifed as family #39 by the presence of John's brother Alexander in the household, along with four children. However, also present is Hannah HARVEY, aged 72 and it is known that John's father, now a widower, marries a Johanna MOSER in 1853. From her age, this Johanna/Hannah (MOSER) HARVEY can be identifed as the d/o Johann Heinrich [Henry] and Mary (HENNEBERRY) MOSER. Further, when Elizabeth Martha (MOSER) HARVEY dies, her death record identifes her mother as Miss Elizabeth MOSER.
So I suspect that Elizabeth Martha is actually the illegitimate daughter of John HARVEY's step-mother, Johanna [probably Johanna Elizabeth] MOSER, who came by the HARVEY name when her mother married George HARVEY Sr. in 1853.
Alos note that the 1911 Census shows Elizabeth (MOSER) HARVEY with an adopted son, Ralph HARVEY, b. Oct 1890. While is it certainly possible that this is a real person, it seems more likely to actually be grandson Ralph YOUNG, who is the same age.
