- The only positive identification I know of for this person is an 1891 Census record, which list him as James SLAUNWHITE, age 6; he has not been found in the 1901 Census, and nothing further is known of him.
Now the Terence Bay Deaths manuscript has an entry for a Moran or Morar SLAUNWHITE who dies 08 Jan 1892, and the only clue as to who this is is the accompanying notation--”JF's [or possibly JP's] son”. There were three residents of Terence bay who might be this JF, all named John Frederick SLAUNWHITE. One of them was also known as John “Penny” SLAUNWHITE so, regardless of whether the notation is JF or JP, we need consider only these three individuals. The known male children of these three are all accounted for, with one exception--the James SLAUNWHITE above.
There is one other Terence Bay SLAUNWHITE who bore the name Moran--James Moran SLAUNWHITE, b. 15 May 1865. But he was the son of James Jacob SLAUNWHITE; also, he disappears after his birth and James Jacob's next son is named James as well. So it seems more likely that he died as an infant rather than that he d. 1892. But the fact that the name James Moran is known to have been used in 1865 on a second cousin of James b. 1884 is interesting.
The bottom line is that, given that James b. 1884 seems to disappear after 1891 and given the process of elimination discussed above, James b. 1894 seems most likely to be the son of “JF” called “Moran” or “Morar” who d. 1892. So, for the time being at least, James b. 1884 is carried here as James M. died 08 Jan 1892. [Bob H]
