  In Feb 1861, an otherwise unidentified Benjamin ZWICKER marries Margaret HARTLEN of Terence Bay. Then, in Oct 1882, Benjamin ZWICKER of Western Shore, a widower, marries Eleanor Rose SLAUNWHITE of Terence Bay. He later marries Catherine Rafuse when Rose Eleanor dies and both Rose Eleanor and Catherine are buried with him at Western Shore. So the question is--Was Margaret HARTLEN the otherwise unknown first wife of Benjamin ZWICKER of Western Shore? Margaret HARTLEN is the sister of James William HARTLEN who, in May 1889, marries Grace Purcell. The witnesses to the marriage are Francis SLAUNWHITE and Rose SLAUNWHITE. The only person who bears the names Rose and SLAUNWHITE, either by birth or marriage, and who does otherwise seem to be ruled out is Rose Eleanor SLAUNWHITE. In 1889, she would be married to Benjamin ZWICKER, but the use of maiden names at family events is a common occurrence in the records of 19th century NS and elsewhere. So it would seem that Rose Eleanor SLAUNWHITE is well-acquainted with Margaret HARTLEN's brother and presumably with Margaret HARTLEN herself. While this does not prove that the husbands of Margaret HARTLEN and Rose Eleanor SLAUNWHITE are the same person, the circumstantial evidence strong enough to convince me that, with (very) high probability, they are.
