Notes - This family is a very perplexing puzzle. The facts are these:
a. An Elizabeth [Nell] HARNISH, b. 1864 at Halifax, marries James William SLAUENWHITE at SPFV in 1880 and gives her parents as Henry and Mary. She later resides at Tantallon or thereabouts.
b. An Albert HARNISH, b. 1871 m. Laura PHILIPS at SMB in 1892 and they reside in that same general area. He gives his parents as Henry and Mary.
c. A Sarah HARNISH, widow, b. 1865 at Halifax, marries a John FERGUSON at SMB in 1887. She gives her parents as Henry and Sarah. One of the witnesses to her marriage is a William SLAUENWHITE. I have no idea who her first husband is.
d. In 1901, a widow named Mary HARNISH is living next door to James William and Nell (Harnish) SLAUENWHITE at Tantallon (or thereabouts). She is living in the household of Benjamin HURSHMAN, bachelor, b. 1852.
e. Nobody that I am aware of has been able to find the family of Henry and Mary HARNISH and their children in any Census of Nova Scotia.
f. The closest matches to Henry are John Henry, b. 1840 at Mill Cove, and Henry, b. 1837 at Hubbard's Cove.
g. A Josephine HARNISH (see notes for her) marries a William Albert HUBLEY and gives her parents as as Henry and Mary. A gggrandaughter states that Josephine's mother's name was Mary Ann JENNINGS.
I think the probability is very high that this is all one family. Based on his age and Hubbard's Bay location, I also believe the father is Henry, b. 1837 [Bob H] - This family is a very perplexing puzzle. The facts are these:
