Notes |
- It is not certain that this is the Catherine SLAUENWHITE who married Henry JOUDREY. She is carried here as his wife for the following reasons:
a. According to the 1881 Census, Henry's wife was b. 1853 and Catherine Louisa was b. 1853
b. In addition to being the right age, she is in just about the right place, and she would have known Henry.
c. She is the only know Catherine SLAUENWHITE who is in the right area and is available to marry Henry.

-- MERGED NOTE ------------
Her death certificate lists her DOB as 20 Mar 1846 and states that she was born at Conquerall Mills; also it gives her parents as James SLAUGHENWHITE and Catherine NAUGLER, both born Camperdown, and it states that she was buried at Midlewood. But there is no known marriage of a Catherine NAUGLER to a SLAUENWHITE or of a James or Jacob SLAUENWHITE to a NAUGLER. Further, there were no known SLAUENWHITE's living at Camperdown before 1830 and her DOB in various censuses is all over the map.
On the one hand, the informant on her death certificate is her son Henry, who should have known who his grandparents were. But there is always the possibility of clerical error, and there is no evidence, other than the death certificate, that a daughter named Catherine born to a James SLAUENWHITE and a Catherine NAUGLER ever existed.
On the other hand, there is a Catherine SLAUENWHITE who is the right age, is associated with Middlewood and who has no known husband--Catherine Louisa 1853, which matches the age of Henry JOUDREY's wife in the 1881 Census. So although she cannot be proven to be this Cathereine SLAUENWHITE, the weight of evidence points to her.
