Mary Ann MEISNER[1]

-
Name Mary Ann MEISNER Birth 1832 Chezzetcook, Halifax, NS [2, 3, 4]
Gender Female Baptism 30 May 1832 Eastern Shore, Halifax, NS [5]
Death 27 Sep 1899 Halifax, Halifax, NS [6, 7]
Cause: Paralysis - The Halifax City Deaths Register states that she was a widow (in 1899); however, her burial record at Christ Church Cemetery states that she was married. Her husband died in 1902, so the former document appears to be in error. In the 1901 Census, he is a patient at Cole Harbour; so possibly, he had been "institutionalized" before her death, thereby leading someone to conclude that she was a widow.

Notes - Mary Ann (MEISNER) SLAUNWHITE and her husband, Daniel SLAUNWHITE are buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Dartmouth. The Halifax City Death register shows that Entry #1 for Oct 1899 is one Mary Ann SLAUNWHITE, widow, age 66 years, born Chezzetcook, and this could only be Mary Ann (Meisner) SLAUNWHITE.
It is not proven that she is the d/o Andrew MEISNER. The evidence that she is a baptismal record from St. John's Anglican, Preston (which covered the Eastern Shore at that time) stating that, on 30 May 1832, Mary Ann MEISNER, d/o Andrew MEISNER, farmer, Three Fathom Harbour, and his wife, Anna Louisa CONRAD, was baptised. Three Fathom Harbour is next door to Chezzetcook, and there are no other Mary Ann MEISNER's in any Anglican register who have a DOB which would correspond to her age in the above death record. Further, she is buried Christ Church Cemetery, Dartmouth, and Christ Church is, I believe, the parish into which St. John's Anglican, Preston, sort of metamorphosed. So I believe this is her. [Bob H]
