- In the 1911 Census, Morton HUBLEY appears with a wife named Cassie. There is no doubt that he is the s/o Samuel and Elizabeth since:
a. There are only two known Morton HUBLEY's and the other is b. 1922
b. His DOB matches that of the s/o Samuel and Elizabeth
c. In 1911, he is living next door to Samuel and Elizabeth
There is no known marriage record for Morton and Cassie, and clearly, at least two of the children listed with them do not appear to be his. In 1901, Morton is single, so children Amos and Laura would not appear to be his legitimate offspring while, beCAUSe of the large gap in the birth record, Edward does.
The 1991 Census is ambiguous about the DOB's for Amos and Laura; it gives their ages as 13 and 15, but their DOB's as Sep 1884 and May 1886. Usually, when this happens, it is beCAUSe the Census taker recorded only the month of birth and arrived at the year by subtracting age from 1911, a process which often produced subtraction errors. Besides, if Amos and Laura are born in 1884 and 1886,they would be born when Cassie was 13 and 15, respectively.
So, my best guess is that Amos and Laura are Cassie's by a previous husband and that Cassie either dies or divorces Morton before 1917, when he marries Effie WENTZELL.
There is one more clue to his puzzle, and that is that on Morton Hubley's death certificate, the informant is a daughter, Mrs. Morton VAUGHAN of Bridgewater; hopefully, in time, information on her will surface. [Bob H]
