  In 1881 she is living in the family of William and Catherine WILE, who appear to be her grandparents, and is surnamed WILE. Also, her children refer to her as Hettie WILE. But her name is WATERMAN in her marriage record, and both her listed parents and the witnesses are named WATERMAN. So it would appear that, since her mother marries Stephen WATERMAN in 1876, 4 years after her birth, she is the illegitimate child of Lena WILE and was taken in by her grandparents. In 1881 she is living in the family of William and Catherine WILE, who appear to be her grandparents, and is surnamed WILE. Also, her children refer to her as Hettie WILE.
